Vlone Jackets

The Vlone jacket is the brand’s rarest and most considered production category. The hoodie and T-shirt are produced in the volumes required to sustain a globally distributed brand. The jacket is produced in volumes determined by what the brand can construct correctly at the quality standard the V mark demands — and outerwear construction at that standard is significantly more complex and expensive per unit than a heavyweight fleece hoodie or a ringspun T-shirt.

The Vlone jacket range covers the varsity jacket — the format most consistent with the brand’s A$AP Mob collegiate-athletic visual vocabulary — the coaches jacket, and occasional seasonal outerwear pieces produced in quantities small enough that they function as collector items from the moment of release rather than becoming collector items after selling through.

The Vlone varsity jacket — collegiate format, Harlem identity

The varsity jacket format — wool-blend body, leather or synthetic leather sleeves, ribbed collar, cuffs and hem — has its origin in American collegiate athletics, where the format was established as an award garment marking participation in a team sport. The A$AP Mob adopted the varsity format as part of their visual identity because the collegiate-athletic aesthetic was simultaneously aspirational and accessible — it referenced academic and athletic achievement that many members of the community the brand emerged from had been structurally denied.

The Vlone varsity jacket places the V mark on the back panel through chenille appliqué — the same tactile, raised technique used for collegiate letterman numbers and graphics. Chenille on a wool-blend body produces the highest-quality tactile graphic available on a varsity format — the yarn depth creates a surface that reads as physically three-dimensional at inspection distance rather than as a flat printed or even flat-embroidered mark. The combination of the chenille V and the wool-blend body communicates craftsmanship at every visual distance from street to close inspection.

The snap closure on the Vlone varsity uses metal four-part snaps rather than zips — consistent with the varsity format's athletic heritage and with the premium outerwear construction standard the brand maintains on its jacket pieces. Four-part snaps carry significantly higher cycle tolerance than the two-part riveted snaps used on lower-specification varsity alternatives and are a construction detail that communicates production quality to buyers who examine the closure hardware.

The V mark on outerwear — why the application method changes

The orange V on black that defines the hoodie and T-shirt is applied through plastisol screenprint — a method appropriate for cotton fleece and ringspun cotton surfaces that provides the correct colour opacity and raised surface texture. On outerwear materials — wool-blend, woven nylon, technical polyester — plastisol screenprint is not the appropriate method because these materials do not provide the flat, uniform surface that plastisol bonding requires.

The Vlone varsity jacket uses chenille appliqué for the back-panel V — the most premium graphic method available for wool-blend outerwear. The coaches jacket uses high-density embroidery at the chest — the tightly woven nylon or polyester outershell provides better stitch anchorage than looser cotton weaves, allowing the embroidery to sit flatter and maintain sharper edge definition than the same embroidery on a fleece base. Both methods produce a V that communicates the brand's visual identity at the correct quality level for each outerwear format without applying an inappropriate graphic technique to an incompatible material surface.

Coaches jacket in the Vlone context

The Vlone coaches jacket — woven nylon or technical polyester outershell, full-length zip or snap front, V embroidery at the chest — sits at the same position in the Vlone range as it does in any other brand's outerwear hierarchy: lighter than the varsity, more versatile across temperature ranges, and appropriate as a transition-season piece worn over a T-shirt rather than as a standalone winter piece. The Vlone coaches jacket carries the brand into the 14–22°C range where neither the heavyweight hoodie alone nor a full winter jacket is appropriate — a contextual gap that every wardrobe needs filled and that most Vlone buyers fill with a non-Vlone jacket by default. The coaches jacket resolves that default.

Sizing

Vlone jackets follow the same British-adjacent sizing conventions as the hoodies — true to slightly generous, designed for a relaxed fit over a T-shirt base layer. Size up one if layering over a heavyweight hoodie. The varsity jacket specifically does not have the internal volume for a heavyweight Vlone hoodie underneath — order the varsity for T-shirt or thin-knit base layer use.

Varsity — over T-shirt

S — 40" chest  |  M — 42" chest
L — 44" chest  |  XL — 46" chest
XXL — 48" chest

Size up one for thin knit underneath. Do not layer over hoodie.

Coaches — over T-shirt or thin knit

S — 40" chest  |  M — 42" chest
L — 44" chest  |  XL — 46" chest
XXL — 48" chest

Standard size for T-shirt base. Size up one for thin knit.

Care

Varsity jacket

Do not machine wash — the wool-blend body will felt under agitation. Spot clean for minor marks. Dry clean only for full cleaning. Store on a wide-shoulder wooden hanger. Air between wears before returning to storage.

Coaches jacket

Machine wash cold on gentle cycle, turned inside out, snaps or zip fastened. Do not tumble dry — nylon outershell loses dimensional stability under dryer heat. Air dry hung from the collar on a wide hanger.

Frequently asked questions

Why is the V on the varsity jacket chenille rather than screenprinted?

Plastisol screenprint requires a flat uniform surface for correct bonding — the wool-blend body of the varsity jacket does not provide this. Chenille appliqué bonds to the wool surface through a heat-fusing or hand-sewing process that works correctly on textured fabric. It also produces the most premium tactile V in the Vlone range — physically three-dimensional with yarn depth that screenprint cannot replicate.

Can I wear the Vlone varsity over the Vlone hoodie?

No — the varsity jacket does not have the internal volume for the heavyweight hoodie's fleece body underneath it. The varsity is designed for a T-shirt or thin knit base. For cold conditions requiring both pieces, wear the T-shirt under the varsity and carry the hoodie as the outer layer over the varsity worn open.

Are Vlone jackets limited edition?

Yes — outerwear production quantities are always smaller than T-shirt and hoodie quantities because the construction complexity and per-unit cost require tighter production volume management. Vlone jackets sell through faster than the brand's lighter garments and are not reliably restocked. If a Vlone jacket is available in your size at retail, the probability of it being available six months later is low.
